This small size compass plane is made from a single piece of premium grade macassar ebony, a type of
hard wood with delightful grain configuration. Compass plane is often used by chairmaker, instrument
maker and craftsmen working with convex and concave surfaces. The plnae features a brass iron cap and
thumb screw, which makes it very easy to adjust the depth of cut.
The 18 mm wide and 2 mm thick cutting iron is made from special tool steel that hardened to Rc 60 ~ 61 and is bedded at 40 degree in the 90 mm long plane body. The cutting depth of the iron can be easily adjusted by means of using a small brass hammer.
Final honing of the iron to suit individual preferences is recommended before first use. A good quality honing jig should be used. Power sharpening machine not recommended for sharping the plane iron, at least on the bevel side.
