Nobody Drowns in Mineral Lake
This series from producer Dick Wolf seems to get better with each season, and this seventh outing is no different.
One of the more memorable episodes this year is "911," which, I am told, earned series star Mariska Hargitay her Emmy. In this segment, a disturbing 911 call from a Honduran 9-year-old girl who, ostensibly, is being used in child porn films, has the detectives racing around the city, trying to find the source of the call, despite numerous phony leads. It's Hargitay's job to keep the girl on the phone until she can be located.
Another episode, "Demons," has detective Christopher Meloni pretending to be a sex offender, in order to get close to a convicted, recently released rapist (Robert Patrick), who may have already raped again.
In the "Strain" and Venom" episodes, Ice-T must seek out and deal with his gay son, with whom he does not have the best of relationships. In the latter segment, the young man is a prime murder suspect.
"Raw" finds the detectives investigating a school shooting, which leads them to a white supremacist group, while "Name" involves the discovery of human remains and four boys who disappeared thirty years earlier.
Writing, direction and acting on this show remain second to none.
