Customer Rating: Summary: Plays the vinyl fine, but no conversion to mp3 on a mac. Comment: Getting serious about a USB turntable, I was finally lured to take the plunge by the omnipresent solicitations for this item that are all over the net right now. Every mention of it I see, it is heralded as a MAC/PC cross-platform compatible turntable.
I have not found this to be the case, I am sorry to say.
I tried to get 'er up and running on a G4 running Panther, and then on a higher-end G5 running Tiger. No soap. Downloading different conversion software than the included Audacity, and shareware such as Line-In, intended to prod reluctant USB ports to recognize a device plugged into them, did not help. What I am left with, after a weekend haunting tech discussion boards and searching for USB device drivers of any kind for a mac, is a vinyl turntable with two male RCA jacks that can plug into the TV. As long as you don't get your hopes up that you are about to embark on a fabulous adventure converting your legendary wax to mp3s or WAVs, this product probably won't disappoint you. I haven't found skating, skipping or fluctuation to be a problem with it. The speed seems rock stable. This isn't a bad product. But I can't get it to do what made me buy it in the first place.
