Customer Rating: Summary: Great little radio Comment: Only reason this is four stars, is believe it or not, this unit does not have a mute button. That is unreal in this day and age.
The bluetooth works perfectly, I can stream audio from my laptop and from Sirius radio. This is one way to have sat. radio in the home when an antenna is not possible.
For as small as this is the sound is quite good.
Very happy with this purchase.
Customer Rating: Summary: Pretty cool, but speakers sound dull Comment: I tested and bought this at a local warehouse club (sorry Amazon) to use as a bedroom stereo, and I'm pretty happy with it. Sony is still building high-quality stereo systems, but here are some minor annoyances:
The Speakers - These didn't have the detail that I was expecting. I needed those sparkling mids and highs to stand out from the muck. I replaced the default speakers with "leftover" 3-way Sony speakers I had sitting around, and they sound a *lot* clearer. Compatible, too (6 ohm impedence). So it's definitely a speaker issue, not a problem with the main unit.
Bluetooth Pairing - I was able to pair a Macbook with it, with very few issues. I couldn't pair it with Vista until I chose "Use the passkey found in the documentation" rather than "Let me choose my own passkey". But after that, no problem. Since this was my first time pairing with the Vista Bluetooth stack, I don't know if that's "operator error" or something Sony/Microsoft could've made easier.
Bluetooth Audio Quality - The Macbook audio seemed a bit overdriven or compressed/limited. Kind of like when you use an FM transmitter to play an MP3 in the car, with a loud source signal. I played with volume levels for a while but never hit a happy spot.
The Vista audio sounded surprisingly good! It wasn't as clear as playing an MP3 CD on the Sony itself, but the artifacts it introduced weren't annoying for casual listening. (For what it's worth, I was using the CL5QFY9NVK98 Bluetooth USB dongle, which I also recommend).
General Loudness - It's "only" a 50W system, which is fine for loud music in small rooms... Just don't plan on blasting music throughout the neighborhood with it. (I doubt anyone would look to a micro-bookshelf system to do this, but it had to be said).
Customer Rating: Summary: Sony quality is good Comment: The product itself seem to be doing fine.
It replaces a 15 yr old Sony component set that took up a whole wall , with five foot speakers, etc.
This new small compact unit seem to give me equal sound and power.
However, I will have to buy a separate turn table for my records.
SHOP AROUND , AS YOU CAN GET A MUCH BETTER PRICE OTHER THAN AMAZON!!
I WON'T MAKE THAT MISTAKE AGAIN!!
Customer Rating: Summary: Excellent System Comment: Just bought this 2 days ago, it does work with "iPhone 3G", however you get message on your iPhone every time that "this accessory is not made to work with iPhone", but it DOES work, including all controls.
I liked bluetooth, simple to pair, all the sounds from my laptop are now directed to the system, I can play an Internet Radio like AOL Radio or Pandora on my laptop and it plays with no issues, I even put my laptop in the basement and tried the bluetooth, I had no issues.
What else would you ask for? Plays everything on the laptop (when paired via bluetooth) and your new iPhone 3G works in the cradle they gave you. I loved the system.
The system is small enough to put it in the bookshelf, not to big. Sound is clear and have all the iPod controls on Remote/receiver.
Radio is neat, CD/MP3 playing is cool and crisp.
It virtually does everything you can ask for. I give it a 5 STAR.
