Customer Rating: Summary: Cocktail hour for the head Comment: The formula of this shampoo is excellent for dry hair. It's very moisturizing, and produces a rich lather. It's meant to give much-needed weight to heavy, thick, frizzy, out-of-control hair. And that it does. My hair turned out very nicely from it's wash with Cynthia Sylvia Stout. The reason I probably won't be buying it again is the smell. This stuff reeks of beer, which I just don't find pleasant at all. Too bad, because it's a great shampoo. I gave it a 4 because the formula is fantastic. If I didn't hate the scent it would absolutely be a 5.
Customer Rating: Summary: Not at all impressed Comment: I try to review everything I buy on Amazon very objectively, and I know that some products work better for some people than others.
Having said that, I fstill cannot understand why anyone would like this shampoo. First of all, the price is pretty ridiculous ($8 for 3.3oz). This would be completely justifiable if the product were some kind of miracle-worker.
The smell doesn't bother me much, although it definitely screams "I'm an organic product that is trying something Walgreens wouldn't!" I have long, brown, moderately-abused hair (from straightening treatments/ironing) that is usually still very soft when used with generic shampoos and conditioners.
I tried this shampoo coupled with the American Cream (which smells good, but has a weird chemical undertone to it), and my hair feels frizzy, dry, and disagreeable. I feel like the combination sucked all of the moisture out of my hair! And, to be sure that it wasn't just the conditioner's fault, I used it by itself another time, and my hair still just felt leeched of nutrients.
Now, I realize that hair strands are actually just dead cells. So it's not like I expected this product to do anything miraculous. But I noticed no increase in shine, and it somehow dried my hair out. Even if brands like Garnier just make my hair feel soft because they put synthetic ingredients in their products, I'd rather have manageable, silky hair than dry, unruly hair!
I would advise you to not believe the claims that Lush hair products stand out because they don't just 'cover up your hair problems'. Hair is comprised of dead cells, people. So I'd go for the waxy Walgreens brands any day!
Customer Rating: Summary: squeaky clean! Comment: i never would have bought this shampoo if i didn't try it out just for fun once. i was cat sitting at my sisters apartment for a week and decided to try out some of her crazy bathroom stuff while i was there. i'd heard that alot of hair products that were known for healthy hair were actually not healthy at all due to all of the chemicals and residues they leave behind in your hair, so i was intrigued. i smelled it first and thought "Yuck! who would put this is their hair!?" but lemme tell ya, i did. and it does not leave your hair smelling like the bottle at all. it leaves your hair smelling clean! feeling clean! soft and light, but not fluffy. it makes my hair literally squeaky clean. i was hooked after the first time i used it and bought the biggest bottle i could before i flew back home. when i arrived home and showed it to my boyfriend i made him smell it and he said "oh wow! it smells so good i want to drink it!!" different strokes i guess.
Customer Rating: Summary: Great Gift Idea For Your Beer Lover. Comment: The scent on this is too overwhelming for my sensitive little nose. I am also one of those freaks who are allergic to Stout Beer. I give it as a gift quite often to my fellow beer loving friends. Everyone who has gotten this shampoo from me has loved it regardless of hair type. The smell and idea of this shampoo is fun. It works wonders. The scent is not overwhelming after the hair is rinsed. It is a scent that you either love or hate though. I would recommend this as a gift idea for something fun and unique.
Customer Rating: Summary: A Fabulous Hair Product! Comment: To start off, let me explain what my hair type is: I have very fine, oily hair that is shoulder-length. However, it is in good condition in the sense that I have little color/sun/heat damage. I ordered the 3.3 oz bottle of Cynthia Sylvia Stout, and when it arrived I instantly opened the bottle to smell the shampoo. It smells wonderful! Yes, there is a detectable scent of beer, but for some reason I was reminded of the smell of pizza (probably from the yeast ingredient). The smell is slightly spicy, but is in no way offensive. The cognac is very detectable, and adds such a nice touch to the overall smell.
I immediately jumped in the shower to wash my hair with it, and I used about a quarter-sized amount of product. It didn't really lather that much, so I thought that it wasn't cleaning my hair. When I washed it out, my hair felt stringy, like I had poured olive oil on it. However, after a few more seconds of rinsing, my hair got very squeaky/rubbery feeling, so I definitely knew it was clean. I used no conditioner, because I wanted to see how the shampoo played out on its own.
Once my hair was allowed to dry, it was incredibly soft, shiny, and fluffy. It was not dry at all, and I didn't even use a conditioner. So for people with my hair type (oily, fine) I deem this product as a 2 in 1 shampoo/conditioner.
It doesn't make my hair smell like beer afterward, unless I'm holding my hair right up to my nose. In other words, I don't smell like beer when I pass other people. All in all, I really love this shampoo, and for anyone who has thin/fine, oily, and flat hair, try this shampoo! Go straight for the full-sized bottle, because you will love this product from LUSH!
