Customer Rating: Summary: Best MMORPG??? Comment: Let's get one thing out of the way, i've been a loyal Warcraft fan for several years now and aside from owning maybe 4 books based in the Warhammer universe, i have no real knowledge of Warhammer. I wasn't even going to purchase this game when it came out but a friend of mine who was playing warcraft with me jumped ships and told me that it was a must. so i gave it a shot.
i fell in love with this game and purchased the collector's edition from amazon.com
since this is a review for that collector's edition i'll do a real quick review of the game:
graphics: 9/10 it's alittle choppy at distance but this is a newly launched MMO so yeah, but up close, the environments and the buildings are absolutely incredible. if you like dark and gritty and tired of WoW's colorful and gitty, this is where it's at. this game absolutely puts WoW to shame.
controls: 10/10 you can customize the interface on this game WITHOUT an add on or mod (goodbye Xperl!!) that on top of being able to FULLY customize the controls i don't know how you couldn't give this a 10
story: 10/10 not alot of people pay attention to the story but when and if you do, keep in mind that Warhammer has been around since 1983, they've got a HUGE story for all you story fans
gameplay: 9/10 PVE is just like WoW, but this game has something WoW can't do right: PVP and RVR, you have to truly experience this to know what it's like but basically once you reach the higher levels, you have to take down the head guy of the other faction and yes, lay siege to their stronghold. it's like can you take down Thrall or Tyrande Whisperwind? no, face it you can't, so what's the point in their existence, WAR put's you in their world and makes you feel like you're a part of something.
now on to the collector's edition:
this thing is bigger than it looks. it's close to 2ft long and 1 foot thick. it comes with a nice art book that is good sized and HARDCOVER. it also comes with a full color, full sized HARDCOVER graphic novel. the game itself is different from the regular edition (i own both). it comes in a thicker case, has different art on the discs and also has TONS of extra content, it's almost like a totally different game! you also get a minature of the greenskins leaders, unpainted, plus mine came broken :( but i kept it in the package so it should be fine. is the collector's edition worth it? yes. why? because of the extra content on the discs if not of the graphic novel and artbook.
Customer Rating: Summary: It's WAAAAGtastic! Comment: Just got my CE today, and it's pretty awesome. Just a few minor issues:
1. One corner of the shrink wrap was torn, and a corner of the box had a slight amount of wear on it. Nothing major, though.
2. The miniature was broken. The package for the miniature looked like it had already been opened, and the arm was broken off. Nothing a little bit of crazy glue won't fix.
On to the good parts:
1. The game arrived very quickly. I'm currently deployment to Iraq, so I wasn't expecting to get it for a while. Amazon gave an estimated arrive date of 10/6. Guess what? It arrived on 10/6! That's exactly 1 week from the moment I ordered it. Pretty fantastic!
2. The CE box is HUGE. The pics on Amazon really doesn't do it justice. When you open it, the first thing you see are the two books. The graphic novel and the art book are both hardbound, and seem to be very excellent quality. Definitely worth the extra cash.
My box also had a number on it: 51777/66000. I'm assuming that there really were only 66000 CEs made world-wide. If so, then this is an amazing buy.
Customer Rating: Summary: Warhammer Collectors and WAAAAGH!!!! Comment: Great game and follows the table top lore, and has a great deal of said lore available and yet to come.
Game play is defently fun, each class has a great mechanic to it, and each class has a mirror class.
The Game is an MMORPG So it's 15$ a month to play (After the first month) that means you will also get Content patches you don't have to buy, and the game is consistently patched to fix any bugs (as there will be)
THe Collectors edition comes with a 2 Books, a Miniature Greenskin hero for the table top (Unpainted Thankfully, it allows me to paint it as i want to mix into my greenskin army) and it comes in a nice cardboard box to protect it. it was heavier then expected, but the art book is amazing! totally worth a glance and great on my coffie table. The Comic book is also hard-bound and beautiful, with the different armies as stories.
It's got things for each person.
You can be a panzy High Elf on Order, Human and Dwarf.
As for Destruction you have the Destructive Greenskins, the Evil Dark Elfs, and the Chaos!
The in game items are fun, but not why i got it.
Well worth the extra 30$ and i would HIGHLY recommend This game t anyone who like Fantasy MMO's and PvP, Don't get me wrong, this game is not just PvP it's also got alot of PvE and it's got enough of both to make anyone happy.
Customer Rating: Summary: It's alright... Comment: This game is alright... it has its ups and downs. First off I had to go and buy a whole new video card just to run it. There is a specific list of video cards on the back of the packaging... make sure you check it, and your video card is listed on there, otherwise, there's a very good chance it's not going to run on your system. After I upgraded my video card, it ran excellent. I was told this would be a WoW clone, and graphics wise it is, only with a little better water effects, shadowing engines, and just more realistic character details. The terrains and zones look very similar thoguh. If your computer can handle it it looks great, they didn't try to be quite as realistic as Everquest, so it doesn't look extremely fake, and they didn't go so cartoony as WoW so its a good mix of both, and looks really good.
Gameplay, I didn't like as much. WoW incorporates an open, free roaming world, that means go anywhere, do anything, whenever you want. this game does not. The zones are broken down into the two realms at battle and the level tier you are, and there's a set path up and down through each. Its a straight line up and down through the zones. Therefore your starter area and the next 2 zones are almost purely your race, and your race alone. So making a good skilled group in certain races is difficult because they don't all feature a tank class. The zones all culminate in the major cities, but that makes it so that all the dungeons, lairs, and senarios are controlled by an NPC in a major city or town. You can't just stroll across a dungeon entrance in this game you have to go to an NPC and ask to access it. In my opinion i kind of like having to actually physically GO TO a dungeon to get in, not just automatically be teleported in and out, and be done with it. Gettin there and back is half the fun.
The armors are extremely customizable, and the weapons look good. The item drops are usually crap though (at least in the first 10 levels) lots of seeds, and weeds, and non-useful items. You come across a decent weapon or armor piece every now and then, but not too often.
Overall, in my opinion it ended up costing too much money to play it because of the upgrade needed. In my opinion after years of World of Warcraft... it doesn't measure up. I don't think it's going to compete with current MMORPGs, except amoung true gamers, because of the system requirements, and the fact that WoW is bigger, with better, easier to follow gameplay, and much nicer system requirements for the NON-gamer communities.
This MAY help keep those 12 year old kids hogging up the servers on WoW OUT of WAR though ;-). Or at least we can hope so. I know WAR is just in the beginning phases though, so I'm gonna stick it out. It'll just take a little getting used to... and a few upgrades, and patches, and it should be good to go...
Customer Rating: Summary: Meh Comment: Great packaging, decent extra's for a collectors edition, although the ingame items could have been better thought out. The game itself is a same old tired game. It is WoW, but with PvP being well thought out, instead of PvE like WoW. The game just doesn't feel inspired. There is nothing new, RvR is little more than horde/alliance in wow, mixed with some DAoC seasoning. I am not impressed. It isn't bad, and for PVP, I think it is the best out there right now, but I was hoping for new, interesting, and fun. I am still looking for the mmo worth playing.
