Summary: Nice heater
Comment: Works just as well as those big fireplace looking units but costs alot less. I'm very pleased with it.

Summary: Burning smell
Comment: This space heater worked great for last winter. This year, I turn it on and it almost immediately sets off my fire alarm. There was a scary burning smell. I've found that the smell doesn't happen when the heater in is "low" mode, but then my room heats up very slowly if at all. Plus, I am nervously smelling the air every five minutes. Also, the room temp always stays at 65 even when my room is definitely colder. This means that the heater will shut off before you want it to. This product was way too expensive to only work for one season (I live in Los Angeles, so it wasn't even used very heavily), and life is way too short for possible fire hazards. I would not recommend it.

Summary: Not as expected
Comment: I've been a big fan of Vornado products, have two of their fans and have had one of their space heaters in the past. The first heater I purchased was perfect, but I had to return this one to Amazon because it arrived with a very inaccurate temperature gauge, off by 8 degrees according to a very accurate room thermometer; that was an important feature for me.

The remote worked very well even when not aiming directly at the heater.

Instead of getting a replacement, I ordered a Lasko like one I already have that runs very quitely. The Vornado made a very loud clicking noise when cycling on and off that I found annoying.

Summary: Great space heater
Comment: I've been using this for a week now. Works very well and it is very quiet. Only nits are the brightness of the LED and the fact that it forgets the heat settings when you un-plug to move it around. It you plan to move your heater around a lot go for one of the analog Vornado models.

Summary: Worth the money - "fix" for Sony TV remotes
Comment: I've purchased a multitude of cheap space heaters for my finished basement over the years. Most have broken down for one reason or another within two years. I've had this Vornado for over two years now and it's has been excellent. A quick read of the features will point out how it differs from conventional space heaters. Because of how well it circulates air, I also use it as a regular fan during the summer.

Loses a star for one reason, the Sony TV remote problem. I just picked up a Sony flat-screen unknowing that lowering the volume on the TV's remote lowers the temperature control on the heater. A detailed web search after the fact confirmed the problem from multiple sources, but unveiled no solutions.

Not willing to accept defeat and guessing Vornado customer support would be of no help, I found a simple "try at your own risk" solution to this. The IR sensor lives behind the red light that is on the top-front of the heater's control panel. A small piece of electrical tape over that light blocks the remote's IR signal, at least from certain angles. Granted, this prevents use of the heater's remote, but I never used it to begin with.

You'll pay a premium for this unit, but it's well worth the money.
