Customer Rating: Summary: Nice for the Price Comment: I'm sure there are better players out there but for the price this is worth it. Entry level Blu-ray player: A little slow to load but picture is nice and set up was very easy. Don't like the controller as it does not light up - ok if you have universal controller.
Customer Rating: Summary: Best value for price hands down. Comment: It's a beautiful blu-ray player that works splendidly. Blue light glow on front power button. I would give it five stars if the remote weren't somewhat plain. Functionality is five stars though.
Customer Rating: Summary: Sylvania Blu-Ray DVD Player Comment: Great price for a Blu-Ray DVD Player. This is our first blu-ray player so I don't know if it is indicative of blu-ray players in general, but it sure takes a long time to respond to commands. Press the "open" button and you wait and wait for the disk tray to come out. So long, that you're wondering if you pressed the button but eventually it does open. Otherwise, great value.
Customer Rating: Summary: Excellent Player Comment: No problems here - seems to do a nice job upscaling regular DVDs and provides a great picture with BR discs. The included HDMI cable is a plus although good quality cables are only in the $5-6 range anyway. I got this when Amazon was offering a $100. discount if you bought 4 BR discs from a selected group, so it was a great deal. This player is rated #1 in the latest issue of the leading Consumer mag.
Customer Rating: Summary: Load times slow, good value, decodes all audio Comment: The unit was tested on a 42" Panasonic Plasma, and in conjunction with an Onkyo 605 Receiver.
The first test was load time. From power on to movie studio wallpaper the machine took 1:30 to power up and load-about 20 seconds more than my Panasonic BD30K.
The second test was with the Men in Black Blu-Ray. Picture and sound quality were excellent, and the movie played fine all the way through.
The next test was upscaling. Unfortunately at 32 minutes in a Season 9 X-File episode, the player froze. I tested the same disc in an Onkyo 805 HD DVD player, and this did not happen, so it was not a problem with the disc. The image quality on the Sylvania Test player was not as sharp as on the Onkyo 805's upscaling capabilities.
The major advantages of this player are its price point, and the HDMP cable, which comes with the player. In addition it allows decoding of all major audio codecs, including True HD.
The major disadvantages were load time, box design and player design. The box is bright orange/white and does not convey luxury or refinement quality as other brands do. The unit/remote also feel "cheaper" than compared to my other player, and is a bit "boxey" looking, so it is less attractive. Lastly the player was a bit noisey when "spinning" the discs before loading.
I've recommend this player as an extry level unit to start enjoying BD movies, but believe there are more substantial units at the same or slightly higher price points, which may be better suited for the serious HT enthusiast.
