Summary: Brilliant Light!
Comment: This bulb is a bit expensive but well worth it in my opinion. The light is that cool, bright silvery-blue light you once saw similarly in mercury vapor lamps. These bulbs are energy efficient at 42W but outputs 250W of luminosity (4,410 lumens!! yeah baby!). And, the bulb lasts 13 times longer (as indicated on the box). A ballast must be used in conjunction with the bulb--probably the only drawback, if there is one. I dont know if the bulb will light without a ballast--I don't think so--and it is not self-ballasted. Anyway, we have four of these bulbs in use at our condos, and they are among the best in light output and efficiency. A word of caution in passing: handle by the base, not the glass component! Finally, all of Lights of America bulbs I've used have been of highest quality in terms of light output, efficiency, and reliability.
