Customer Rating: Summary: Better than expected, less than hoped for Comment: Pro's : Fits a 17 inch laptop with room to spare. Speed adjustable fans. Folds for storage/transport.
Con's: Fans could be a little more powerful. There are some sharp edges that could be rounded off. USB ports, only a net gain of 2 for 2 used.
Over all: I'm quite happy with the over all results. While my new Sager had some small problems recognizing the rear 4 USB ports, it's now working fine. I have recommended this to several other people so far and will continue to recommend this product.
Customer Rating: Summary: Awesome product! Comment: I have a Dell XPS 17" gaming laptop with an NVidia graphics card. While gaming for hours on end, and needless to say gets very 'warm'. The store bought $25-$30 coolers did not cool down the laptop at all. Plugged in this cooler and within minutes the laptop was cooled down and running much faster. Well worth the extra money!
Customer Rating: Summary: WOW!! This is the BOMB!!! Comment: I just bought a Alienware M17 with all the duckets and to say the least this cooling pad is a must have for high end notebook users. Alienware owners know that their laptops tend to get a little warm. This beauty will solve that problem for you. After placing my laptop ontop of this thing and playing FALLOUT 3 at max settings I never heard my pc fans come on until I was running for about 2 hours, and then the pc fans came on for a bit and then shutdown. The only thing that was wrong with this is that once I got it I had to take it apart, real quick and easy to do by the way, and adjust the little mount pads for the fans so the fan themselves would stop rubbing on them. After that little adjustment this thing was so quiet even on full power. Great buy and definitely worth the extra bucks if you have them.
Customer Rating: Summary: If sturdy is what you're looking for... Comment: As the product description says, this is aluminum. It does fit my 17" laptop with room to spare. I purchased a black one and the finish is well polished and not dull. The construction is very durable and should last a long time. Laptop heat has been significantly reduced. Fan noise is heard but does not irritate or disrupt movie watching experience. It makes a subtle and quiet breeze. For the price, i am happy with the purchase because the amount paid is well balanced by its design and construction; hence the 4 stars. In other words, anything over $40 and is plastic is not cost-effective for me.
Downside: Not designed for mobility. This is definitely a "put-in-place" cooler. It does fold in half, but the weight, bulk, and edges does not suit the traveling man/woman. Because it folds in half, not ideal for placing on your lap unless you have something underneath to prevent it from folding into you. Can be troublesome and heavy to place a laptop and this cooler on top of your lap.
Customer Rating: Summary: A Cooler Pad Comment: ThinkPad, that is. I didn't think I'd need the cooler, but I'm real glad I got this one, for it works exactly as advertised. And as others observe: It's rugged and thus isn't something to lug around or drop; it's not whisper-quiet but I'd rather know it's running; its efficiency is somewhat dictated by the configuration of your laptop's fan and heat exhaust; the USB hub sometimes acts a little flaky but show me a hub that doesn't (hint: be sure to properly unplug the USB hardware you'd plugged in); and AC power is the only way to go, for the cooler will otherwise drain your extended battery pack faster than Dr Doom.
