Karan Casey is one of the most influential and imitated vocalists in Irish and American folk music; a natural innovator, she proves that the ancient and the modern make excellent bedfellows. On Ships in the Forest, her fifth solo album and debut with the Compass Records Group, Casey's warm, soulful voice ebbs and flows around ballads both timely and timeless. Produced once again by Donald Shaw (of Capercaillie fame), the album was recorded at Casey's home in County Cork and features the members of her current touring band, Caoimhín Vallely (piano), Kate Ellis (cello) and Robbie Overson (guitar) along with special guests Kris Drever, Niall Vallely and Cillian Vallely.

Customer Rating: Summary: Ships In The forest Comment: Karan Casey is one Ireland's best female vocalists. "Ships In The Forest" is one of her mellowest Cds.
Customer Rating: Summary: A pleasing CD Comment: I bought this CD after it was recommended to me by Amazon.com and I am quite pleased with it. I have listened to the entire album over a half dozen times and am still enjoying every song.
Karen has a pleasant singing voice and the accompiament and rythyms are entertaining as well. If you are a fan or Irish folk and contempary music I think you will enjoy this. Although that is just my opinion, your mileage may vary. :-)
Customer Rating: Summary: Elegant and Haunting Comment: Before I bought this album, I had only heard bits and pieces from Karan Casey's myspace profile. It was enough to whet my appetite. I am so pleased with this album that it's hard to find the right words.
I am a new listener of hers having only heard her solo albums and never one by Solas, her old band. I absolutely love her voice. She is accompanied by very few instruments on this album, so her voice really shines.
The album is elegant, haunting, and sincere, not to meant powerful. Her words seep through your eardrums and will make you float. I am a fan of traditional music without a lot of modern flair. If you are too, you will love this album.
I also recommend these albums which I also own by Casey: Distant Shore, Seal Maiden: A Celtic Musical, Chasing the Sun, and The Winds Begin to Sing
Customer Rating: Summary: Beautiful! Comment: OUTSTANDING!! Another hit from Karan Casey! We loved it when she was with Solas and was a disappointed when she left. We still love Solas and continue to support Karan's solo career. Her voice is one of the most beautiful and pure I have ever heard.
