Customer Rating: Summary: Very modern Kenwood thingy Comment: I bought this radio/cd player for a 99 Civic I just got. We've been using it for about half a year. There are a few things which bother me about this thing.
First, be prepared that you will need an adaptor cable to plug this item into your car. The cable that comes with the player ends with plain wires. An option for a DIY person is to find the proper connector and use a crimp tool. I soldered it to a connector left behind by the previous owner of the car.
Second, I did not particularly like this single knob operation: to change equalizer preset you go to the fourth item in the menu (push the knob four times); bass adjust is number five, treble is number six. So, this is OK to do when you are stopped at an intersection, but not when you are driving on a freeway.
Third, while there is brightness adjust tied to your dashboard brightness control, it only attenuates the display. The blue-backlit knob shines bright in the night unless you switch the unit off.
However, other than the things listed above, it does what it is supposed to. I guess the fact that it can play mp3 disks and USB memory should work well for heavy commuters, but I drive only 3.5 miles roundtrip.
Customer Rating: Summary: Excellent value, perfect feature set Comment: I received this for my birthday and installed it recently. The installation was easy, the instruction manual was clear, and the sound from the stereo is excellent. I very much appreciate the USB and AUX input and the data CD ability. All of it works smoothly. If you have an internal amp on your car, be sure to turn the radio's own amp off and that will clean up the sound considerably (I had minor engine noise in my speakers before I did this).
Customer Rating: Summary: Kenwood KDC-MP438U Receiver Comment: Sounds great, looks great, good price - what else can I say?
I particularly like the USB front connection for inputting other devices and USB drives with MP3 music.
Customer Rating: Summary: Huh? Poratable hard drive issues. Comment: I see people posting that they use a hard drive with the unit. How? I have a portable hard drive and it wont recognize it. It's formatted correctly, I downsized the amount of files all to see if I can get it to work but to noavail. Can someone help?
Customer Rating: Summary: Great receiver Comment: I purchased this unit after the original tape deck in my 14 year old Honda finally died. Boy, I had no idea what I was missing! Overall sound quality jumped way up, and all the new features of this receiver makes for an enjoyable listening experience in my car. I do wish it would shuffle ALL mp3 tracks on a CD or thumb drive instead of what's in a folder. The front access USB port was a huge selling point for me and it's great to download something quickly and then just use the USB slot. Highly recommended unit.
