Customer Rating: Summary: poor quality control Comment: Two days out of the box proved too much for this unit.
The volume control lock up at about mid level and would not go beyond that (22 on the units scale). I immediately wrap up the unit and return the darn thing. Before this mis-fire the sound and qulity of the product was impressive. I just got a bad pick or are there more out there? I did not want to find out and did not request a replacement.
Customer Rating: Summary: Excessive Heat from the unit Comment: This is for the Boston Acoustics Horizon Duo-I
Someone mentioned the smell. I ordered a brand new Duo-i and I noticed the smell too and the excessive heat from the unit even without charging my Nano. The smell seems like the electric wire burning. I emailed Boston Acoustics and have no response yet. Does anyone has the similar problem?
Customer Rating: Summary: Excellent in Comparison Comment: I replaced a Tivoli Audio Stereo/Woofer combo with this BA Duo-i primarily because I like the ipod dock and the Tivoli took up too much room. I have a BA Receptor radio that has proven itself over the past couple years. I have also had a similar system from Cambridge SoundWorks. The Boston Acoustics Duo-i has not disappointed me. The sound it great, it picks up stations well and the adjustability and control of the unit is well thought out. It has now replaced my Receptor Radio on the bed stand and the Tivoli with it's ipod adaptor on the bookcase. I can't think of any negatives based on comparisons to Tivoli and Cambridge systems. It is well though out, excellent sound, Above average control features and a fairly small footprint.
Customer Rating: Summary: Great sound for a clock radio Comment: FM reception is good, sound is good (well, make that great for the price range), *very* easy and tactically pleasant to use (set alarm, etc.)
Boston Acoustics Horizon I-Duo Volume limit problem: Mine came with "hospitality mode" enabled, and volume would not go past 19. To fix: turn on unit, turn volume all the way down to 00, push and hold volume button for 10 seconds until beep then release, then turn volume all the way up to 50 (max) and push and release volume button.
After one email to Boston Acoustics support, I received a courteous response within 12 hours with instructions.
Customer Rating: Summary: Fantastic Interface Comment: Compared to the mediocre unit that the Boston Acoustics device replaced (by Homedics, and not much cheaper than the BA version) the sound is fantastic. Clear at any volume, without hiss or whine. Having a headphone jack at the front is nice as well. Since I put this clock-radio high on a bureau, I also prefer rotating dials on the front of the unit to repeatedly having to hit flat buttons, or reach to the top of the unit to spin a dial.
The best feature, though, is the digital interface, which is cleverly designed. First you spin a dial to choose the function (ipod, FM, clock adjust, alarm adjust, etc.) then a second dial to adjust that function. It cuts down on the number of buttons needed, and the screen is easy to read. I'm very pleased with this unit.
