Tiles are engraved with Chinese characters along with numbers and Arabic numerals and are made out of heavy, scratch resistant melamine and measure 1-3/16'' H x 7/8'' W x 1/2'' Thick (30mm x 22mm x 13mm).
This set can be used to play using either traditional Chinese rules or American mahjong rules. Proper English playing manual is included. Total weight with case is 15 lbs.

This mahjong set is styled to have the look and feel of a traditional American Bakelite set. Buttery tiles sit atop comfortably beautiful wooden racks, and a wooden rosewood veneer case with felt lining gives this set an understated elegance. This set has 166 tiles, including all the 144 tiles for classical Chinese play as well as an extra 22 tiles for the American version of the game. With this set you can comfortably play either version. To play the Chinese version simply use the red dragons as the 'hong zhong' and the green dragons as the 'fa' tiles.

Comment: I am retired and have just recently started playing mah jong. This is a great game that requires thinking skills. This particular set is the envy of all my friends. I would recommend it to anyone. The service from yellow mountain imports was perfect.

Comment: The set is more beautiful in person. Claimed that the wooden racks included the pushers but the set I received did not have the pushers. I am having to order them separately.

Comment: Beautiful set; very well crafted. Mahjong is a much more complicated game than I would have imagined. The directions that came with the set give a cursory description about how to play, but I suspect that it takes one years to really learn the complexities. So I am not surprised. I am going to try to find someone who knows how to play in order to begin learning. Also be aware that it takes a minimum of four people to play.
