Summary: Better than I expected
Comment: Honestly, I didn't even have high hopes for this to work as promised. But to my surprise, it did, and it looks great. (As great as you're gonna get with a converter box, anyway). Yes, it's a bit too blurry to read text clearly, but I don't know why you'd be doing that on the TV anyway. I was using it for watching online Netflix movies on the laptop, and in that it looked just as good as live TV. My one complaint that keeps it to 4 stars is that the buttons are uncomfortable to use, and it doesn't keep all the settings in memory between uses, so you have to use them a lot.

Comment: This is a great addition to my presentation arsenal. It allows me to connect my laptop to large screen TVs for presentation when a projector is not available. If you don't use it often, don't lose the instructions.

Comment: This is a fairly small unit that takes its power from a USB connector. It comes with most cables, but not an S-Video. Maybe the S-Video cable would have provided better performance than the composite video cable.
I wanted to connect between a PC with Hi-Def video to a DVD recorder. My VGA output isn't active while the HDMI is active, so I tried my laptop at 1024x768 resolution. The result is a very blurry picture. You can't really read the text. My TV is good enough 1080p to detect goodness or NOT and it detects every flaw in the signal.
I wasted my money on this one.

Comment: We tried this on two laptops, one running Vista Business and one running XP Pro. We couldn't get it to do anything on either of them no matter how we set the switches. The instructions that come with this are very poor. I called to return it, the person I talked to had such a foreign accent I had trouble understanding her. I finally understood that she wanted me to change to screen resolution. When I hooked back up it caused the laptop to go black. I had to unplug from power and remove the battery to get it back up. I tried one more time with the same result. We called back and the company sent a return authorization. When they refunded our credit card the didn't refund any shipping charges and charged a 15% fee for returning a faulty product.

Comment: This thing works well right out of the box for me. Reading text on a tv is not the greatest. I bought it to watch movies using my computer. The only complaint is that I can see a couple faint scrolling lines whenever there is a black or mostly black screen.
