The Bose® Computer MusicMonitorTM was developed for the growing number of people who use their computers for personal entertainmentand want accurate, detailed sound from an elegant yet unobtrusive system.
Until now, high quality desktop sound with deep, realistic low tones has come only from large speakers or a three-piece system with a bass module. Our new MusicMonitor is an alternative for serious listeners who prefer a two-piece solution offering performance, simplicityand more desktop space.
This unexpected sound quality is made possible by combining the latest in switching amplifier technology with new, proprietary acoustic design, highly efficient neodymium speakers and Bose digital signal processing.
Together, these technologies allow the MusicMonitorTM to deliver accurate, full-range sound surprising for its sizeless than 5" high and only 2½" wide.
The MusicMonitorTM is also pleasing to the eye, with solid aluminum casing and a metallic silver finish. Its understated elegance fits nicely almost anywhere in your home.
Try the Bose Computer MusicMonitorTM for streaming audio and downloads from your laptop or PC, or movies from a portable DVD player. We think you'll find its performance hard to believe from a system this small.

Customer Rating: Summary: Superb sound Comment: I purchased these speakers for use with my Imac and they are everything I had hoped for! Superb highs and bass sounds make music a real pleasure. Design and size are ideal and match up to sleekness of Imac. They are also portable for use with my Ipod Touch. The only downside is the price...the Bose name carries a heavy price tag.
Customer Rating: Summary: Absolutely Love Them Comment: I really love these speakers. I enjoy premium sound in general, and I tend to work off a laptop and move around a lot. Don't always want to use headphones. If you want computer speakers that can tuck into a backpack and don't sound like computer speakers, this is your only choice at any price point.
I will say that the price point is something of a large pill to swallow, and if you don't love your music that much, you might opt for something cheaper. Also, you're going to want to have a large computer backpack to bring these along. Also, these certainly don't sound like the "real" stereo speakers I have, but really they're very close, as close as anything I've ever attached to a computer.
That said, I think the imaging is fantastic, and the volume second to none for computer speakers. Once in awhile I forget they're right next to me and put a coffee cup in front of one of them, which will certainly affect the sound. But I personally really enjoy these.
Customer Rating: Summary: I'm a Believer Comment: OK, I waited a long time and really thought about it and shopped, shopped, shopped- meaning I surfed a LOT of websites, reviews, etc. Now, I go back to the legendary 901's in the late 60's/early 70's, and I have enjoyed many Bose products since then, owning a Wave radio, several headphones and other goodies. But, I couldn't decide on these.
I first learned they existed when I was walking through an airport with time to kill- I think it was Midway in Chicago. I heard wonderful music with a stunning clarity and I looked all around for where the music was coming from. I found the Bose booth and the salesperson asked me to pick what was playing-- imagine, airport concourse, busy and NOISY. Finally, he pointed out these teeny metal speakes and I frankly couldn't believe it.
I decided I would take the $400 plunge (nearly $500 with tax and very nicely done carrying case with strap- a necessity if you want to move these things around) yesterday and went to a Bose store to hear them one more time. They sounded awfully good, so I bought them, and went home for the big moment. Music equipment sounds very different in your own home than it ever sounds at any store or public place.
I have a MacBook Pro with about 60 gigs of ITunes, a huge collection of CD's and an XM Radio, several IPOds and a CD player and I was eager to hear all of them through these little tiny speakers. I fired it up and had a moment of great disappointment when it seemed to sound no better than my Mac's nice built-in speakers. Then, I realized I had not connected the speakers to the Mac! Duhhh . . .
Then I connected them and tried all different genres including the demo CD. All I can say is, if price is no object (and that's what all the reviews ding Bose about, over and over and over . . .), these are, pound for pound, the finest little speakers I have EVER had the pleasure of hearing. Highs are clear and well-defined and the bass is incredible, given that there are two little speakers and NO subwoofer. They take up like zero space and they really can fill a room with sound- in my house, anyway.
Now, I have followed an old audiophile's advice from when I was a kid. Don't buy anything that is higher quality than you can hear the difference (not grammatical, there it is). I am in my later 50's and have some rock n' roll hearing loss, as so many of my generation do-- too many Marshall stacks, too close. But, these little speakers really do it for me. I cannot imagine a better sounding set of little speakers and they do just fine for me with MP3's, CD's, playing the XM through them and the CD player and the IPods. I heartily recommend them to you, again, if price is no object, and you really want a quality sound coming out of these little speakers that don't take up much room (they won't even bother the wife!). I am totally happy -- don't listen to all the techno-geek, Bose-bashers out there who probably have never even heard these little puppies before they spewed all over the Internet. Let your ears make the decision.

Customer Rating: Summary: LOOK! NO KNOBS Comment: NO HEADPHONE JACK, NO 2ND IMPUT JACK, NO SUBWOOFER, NO REAR SPEAKERS, NO BALANCE KNOB, NO BASS-TREBLE KNOB...IT'S LIKE A TV WITH ONE STATION..JUST TURN IT ON AND ADJUST THE VOLUME..THAT'S ABOUT ALL OF YOUR OPTIONS AFTER PLUGGING IT INTO THE SOURCE...GOTTA LOVE IT!
CAN'T SPEAK FOR MOVIES OR GAMES, BUT FOR DIGITAL MUSIC - ESPECIALLY SYNTHESIZED CONTEMPORARY INSTRUMENTALS PLAYED AT MODERATE VOLUME - THIS IS AS PURE A SOUND AS I'VE HEARD FROM ANY STEREO DESKTOP SPEAKERS OUTSIDE THE STUDIO.
Customer Rating: Summary: Inferior to the BOSE Companion 2 series. Comment: This fact wouldn't be as insulting if those speakers weren't 1/4 the price of the ones I'm now reviewing. I bought the Music Monitor units to compare and possibly replace the Companion 2 speakers that I currenly own. Disappointment set in immediately upon opening the box. These speakers both look and sound cheap. If you removed the Bose name plate, I would have surmised they had cost 25 dollars, perhaps 30. I connected the Music Monitor units to the same PC as my 99 dollar Bose speakers and assure you in both looks and sound the Companion 2's blow these suckers out of the water. To add insult to injury, the Music Monitor product doesn't offer a second connection to another audio source such as an MP3 player. The kicker is, the Companion 2 does offer this second connection option. Judgement? Due to vastly superior sound, increased versatility, and dramatically improved aesthetics this buyer stuck with the Bose Companion 2 series and sent the embarrassing Music Monitor step-cousin back to BOSE for a full refund. What a joke of a product.
