Customer Rating: Summary: not worth it Comment: I sprayed two full bottles on my gazebo and the back of my house. Spiders may have been a bit deterred for a day but they came right back. I still knock down webs daily. I will say I don't think I have as many spiders... but I definitely still have spiders and lots of webs
Customer Rating: Summary: Over 40 gallons used so far!!! Comment: I have extensive use with this product on a professional level. I am an estate manager for several large private lake-front homes in Texas. Our clients boat docks and outdoor living spaces were a constant struggle to maintain due to cobwebs, mud daubers & bird droppings. As soon as we had them all cleaned up, just a few days later everything looked like it had been neglected for years! We purchased several gallons of Dr. T's and tested it thoroughly on our worst affected boat dock.
Before purchasing we called a rep at the manufacturer for more information. He explained that the chemical works by making the treated surface unsuitable for proper web adhesion, so the spiders don't die- they just choose to not build their webs on those treated places.
The rep from Dr. T's told us to first spray it directly onto the cobwebs and let it sit over night. The next day the cobwebs were stiff & brittle - not sticky! A gentle brushing removed the thickest of webs instantly.
If that was ALL it did I'd still buy it in bulk. But the following week we noticed a 75% reduction in web activity. Even more surprising,(and unexpected), was the absence of mud dauber nests & significant reduction in bird droppings.
Mud daubers eat spiders, and birds eat spiders & mud daubers. By reducing the number of spiders, we broke the food chain for the mud daubers & birds. Another added benefit.
I'm always wary of a product that says "Apply Liberally", especially such an expensive chemical. But after two heavy applications to the boat dock we truly did see an honest-to-God 99% reduction in web activity. This stuff does work!!!
Convinced that we were on to something, we also applied it to our other customers patio spaces & boat docks.... with a 95% average reduction rate. We were proclaimed as miracle workers and soon all their neighbors were calling to buy treatments from us.
THE GOOD NEWS: This stuff works so well we're about to buy a 55 gallon drum of it. All my clients are shocked at how well it works. And happy customers are how I pay for nice family vacations. ;-)
THE BAD NEWS: Expensive. As the reviewer above had noticed, it takes allot of this product to "shock" an area into shape. A few spritzes here and there is a waste of your time & money.
This product averages $35/ gallon. We used a grand total total of 5-gallons (2x heavy treatments), to properly & effectively treat a single slip, covered wooden boat dock, 1000 square foot patio with ceiling fans & wicker furniture. The effect is amazing, but requires bi-weekly touch-ups on persistent areas, typically wrought iron fixtures due to lack of absorption of chemical. Total material cost for great results in above area for five months of harsh Texas summer: $500.00, or $100 a month.
Many of my clients requested that their entire home exteriors also be treated. Those treatments got into several thousand dollars of chemical costs for a summer season.
~ Also, this stuff does stink! It smells bitter & acidic like aspirin, with a hint of fake orange perfume. Wear goggles as you do NOT want to get this stuff in your eyes. (All too easy to do when spraying ceilings, or in windy conditions).
BOTTOM LINE: A "dream come true" product, but be prepared to shell out some serious dollars for the luxury of being free from spiders, and all the other creatures that eat spiders.
Customer Rating: Summary: A lot of work and pain and smell with little results. Comment: I'm not sure this spray works as well as it's supposed to, but maybe that's because my basement apartment is in a house that is over 100 years old. This place is spider infested like no other single place I've ever seen.
The product said it's supposed to discourage reformation of webs for up to 3 months out of doors and 6 months indoors . . . The main area I wanted it for was our stairwell because that place always looks like a haunted house with all the cobwebs everywhere. It was less than 3 months before I started seeing web's again, however, and this stairwell that I'm speaking of is completely covered, it's not exposed to the elements. In fact, strangley, it seemed to take longer for the webs to reform outside than in the stairwell.
I was going to try to use it inside in the upper corners of the walls just so I wouldn't have to dust so much, but I ran out before I was even barely done with the stairwell . . . Maybe I shouldn't have used so much around the outside of the house. . . I guess I was just kind of testing it before I did the parts that really needed it.
Plus, just as a side note, I got a huge blister on the inner curve of my right thumb from spaying so much . . . I can't decide if the rubber gloves had to do with that, or if it would have been worse without the gloves . . . Either way, I used up the whole bottle just trying to eliminate the webs around the outside of my apartment and in my stairwell, and by the end I had a horrible blister that broke before I was finished, and the smell of the spray didn't disperse for a week or two.
