The Panasonic SDR-S10P1 captures home movies straight to SD memory cards, sold separately. It's small and lightweight ? great for popping into a pocket or a handbag and recording on the go. Transfer footage to your computer easily ? just use the camcorder's USB interface or slide your SD card into your PC's memory card reader. Then share your videos online by uploading them to a video blog or a website like YouTube. A widescreen recording mode lets you capture videos that match the shape of your HDTV with no stretching or distortion of the picture. The built-in zoom mic automatically pinpoints the sound of your distant subject as you visually zoom in, for clear, distraction-free audio. Manual focus, recording modes, and white balance settings let you fine-tune the look of your recordings. 2-3/4 widescreen LCD 10X optical zoom lens (digital zoom to 700X) Built-in stereo zoom mic Electronic image stabilization Auto and manual focus White balance settings 5 scene modes, including Sports, Portrait, Low Light, Spot Light, and Surf & Snow High-speed USB port Audio/video output Direct photo printing with PictBridge-compliant printers Unit size - 2-1/2W x 1-1/4H x 4-1/2D Weight - 6.4 oz. without battery or media

Customer Rating: Summary: Great at what it does-- almost five stars Comment: I've had this camera for just about one year now and have found it more than adequate for my needs. Rather than carry around a larger camera (which I wouldn't use) this Panny fits nicely in a shirt pocket. As a result I have shot tons of video of my family ice fishing, the kids on gradeschool field trips, and my own work-related travels that I know I simply would never had shot with a larger camera. Despite what some say here, we've found the video quality just fine-- whether watching on a 20" computer monitor or on a 52" plasma HDTV. Sure, it's not HD quality, but it's at least as good as the 15 years of 8mm video we have converted to digital (usually better) and it's much more convenient. Third-party batteries are cheap (well under $20) and charge quickly. SDHC cards are also cheap now, so buy an extra battery and a couple of 8-16 gig cards and you'll end up with more video than you know what to do with.
I found the included editing software just fine as well. Four stars, though it really deserves close to five for the excellent design-- all that's missing is an integral lens cover.
Customer Rating: Summary: Panasonic SDR-S10P1 review Comment: Purchased as on open box special, I had no great expectations from this video camera but have been pleasantly suprised. It does great in low light, and ok in daylight. It is a battery hog so by some spares. It is not a professional or even high end camera so if that is what you need look elsewhere. For $150, plus some extra batteries at $20 a piece, I think it is a great pocket, yes pocket, video camera, that you can take anywhere easily.
Customer Rating: Summary: good at what it does Comment: This camera is good at what it does. It is not a $400.00 camcorder that takes flawless movies. It is a great little camcorder that is small enough that you will take it with you and actually use it. I have had other camcorders and they got left home a lot. This one goes with me everywhere. The sound on this one is very good. I use it at music events and am very happy with it. The 10x optical zoom is more than enough for most uses. The one drawback is the software that comes with it. I don't really like it. Just change the file from a .mod to a .mpg and you can use movie maker. Or you can learn the software that comes with it. If you don,t know how to change a file from mod to mpg ask your kid, that's what I did.
Customer Rating: Summary: Excellent video and very easy to use Comment: I bought this camera last week and have been using it indoors and outdoors with my family. I've found it to be very easy to use and the video quality is great. You have the option of low quality video (more recording time, up to 3 1/2 hours on a 4 gig card), Normal quality (about 1 hr and 1/2 on a 4 gig card), and High Definition (about 40 minutes on a 4 gig card). The high definition works great. I've been using it for my sons' lacrosse and baseball games, and the picture is very sharp and the camera is so easy to use. The audio isn't high definition, but suitable.
The .mod format shouldn't hinder ANYBODY with this product. If you copy the .mod files to your computer and rename them .mpg files, they will play. There's absolutely no conversion needed, just rename the files.
