Summary: Useless for me
Comment: I too have an awful yellowjacket and paperwasp problem year after year near my deck. The year I had a bald faced hornet nest in my maple was the best year ever; didn't have any yellowjackets or paperwasps. I purchased these elsewhere, hoping they'd at least deter. Personally, they weren't detered by this in the least. As another poster stated, it's a great decoration, and sadly, that's all it was for me, until the moisture got to it (I had it under a gazebo, but windy rain is a problem).

Summary: Doesn't Work
Comment: I live in Texas and we have a big problem with wasps (red, black, brown and yellow striped). Put two on each porch and it didn't deter the wasps at all. They flew all around it. In fact, they built one of there mud nests right on top of one of them. Don't waste your money.

Summary: Nice if you want a decoration...
Comment: These things are useless. We have paper wasps all around our house, they have built a nest in the eaves of out garage. Our garage is about 30 feet from our deck and they seem to like taking the wood from our deck to build/add their nest. They kind of chew it off the railings, so at anytime there is usually about 3-7 wasps on our deck railings. They aren't aggressive and they leave us alone for the most part but I still would like to deter them from that area while me and my 2 children are out there. I thought this product would do the trick; sadly I was wrong.
We bought the 2 pack and hung one up on the eave of the house right above the deck (our deck is very small) and the other on the eave of the house by the lower stairs of the deck. The lower nest is about 15 feet from the wasps nesting place and the other nest is only about another 10-15 feet away from that.
The beee free's went up in the morning before the wasps were really active. As soon as the wasps got active they wanted to know what those things were, there was no hesitation at all. Our wasps were just as active as ever. If I thought maybe there was any hesitation from them at all I would consider that maybe I needed a few more. No hesitation at all and I'm really upset about that. I wanted a more natural "green" way to get rid of them, I still do. If anyone knows a way please please please let me know.
So if you want a nice decoration buy them, if you are trying to deter wasps look for something else.

Summary: This Worked for Us
Comment: We were looking for a natural wasp repellent for our deck area. Every year we battle wasps through out the summer. We purchased this product without much expectation. Much to our surprise, this product is keeping the wasps away from our deck area. We recently purchased two more to put around the front of our home. The only drawback to this product is that it has to be brought in if it rains - the material its made out of will not stand up to getting soaked in a rain storm.
