Editorial Reviews:

Sporting a candybar design, the Samsung A727 offers a rich multimedia experience in an ultra-slim form factor. Its 3G high speed data capability makes it easy to stream, download and enjoy endless hours of music, videos, TV, radio and more. You'll be able to access such AT&T services, such as Mobile Music, Cellular Video, access to MobiTV and MobiRadio. It will also support AT&T's forthcoming Video Share service, which offers a one-way video stream during a mobile-to-mobile phone call. Currently the one of the slimmest 3G phones available from AT&T, the A727 measures just 0.35 inches thin (8.9mm) and weighs 2.82 ounces. It communicates over GSM/GPRS networks and offers global voice and data roaming in over 125 countries.

Amazingly slim and lightweight, the A727 weighs just 2.82 ounces and measures 0.35 inches thin. And you can watch streaming live television on its brightly colorful TFT screen.
The A727's dual-band 3G connectivity (850 MHz, 1900 MHz) provides average download data speeds between 400 and 700 kilobits per second with bursts of more than 1 megabit through AT&T's HSDPA (High Speed Download Packet Access) network. With AT&T's MobiTV service, you can watch live television right on your cell phone, with content from such channels as MSNBC, CNBC, ABC News, FOX Sports, The Discovery Channel, and The Learning Channel.

And with the forthcoming Video Share service (to be fully available in the summer of 2007), you can send a live, one-way video stream to another compatible phone during a standard voice call. The service also allows you to switch the direction of the video stream during the same phone call. (Customers must be in an area served by the companyƕs 3G network and have a Video Share-enabled phone.)

AT&T's Mobile Music service features connectivity that allows you to use Napster or Yahoo! Music to purchase and load music onto your phone. You can also sign up to subscribe to XM Radio or MobiRadio digital radio for streaming music and news radio wherever you roam. And with an AT&T 3G phone, you can watch your favorite music videos anytime, anywhere.

The A727 has a bright color TFT display that offers a 220 x 176-pixel resolution (with 65K colors). It has a 30 MB internal flash memory, and is expandable via MicroSD memory cards. The 1.3-megapixel camera can capture images up to 1280 x 1024 pixels, and it also offers a 4x digital zoom, multi-shot capability, self-timer, and video capability. Other features include:

  • Mobile email capabilities and wireless internet access
  • SMS and MMS messaging, as well as connectivity to AOL, Windows Life, and Yahoo! instant messaging services
  • Headset jack and Bluetooth 2.0 connectivity for using a wireless communication headset
  • Holds 1000 alphanumeric entries with support for up to 40 digits, 16 characters
  • Last 20 incoming, outgoing and missed call logs
  • 64-note polyphonic music tones/MP3 music tones
  • Personal organizer (Calendar, Calculator, Currency Converter, Tasks, Note)
  • Conference calling (1 + 5)

Vital Statistics
The A727 weighs 2.82 ounces and measures 4.5 x 1.98 x 0.35 inches. Its rechargeable battery is rated at up to 4 hours of talk time, and up to 250 hours of standby time. It runs on the 850/900/1800/1900 GSM/GPRS/UMTS frequencies. The phone comes with a one year limited warranty.

Summary: Very thin and light but hard on fingers
Comment: It disappears into your pocket but the keys are hard to press. My fingers got sore fairly quickly. Luckily, I still had my old one so I went back to it. I would use the A727 if I didn't have another one but wouldn't go out of my way to get this.

Also, it came from AT&T locked so I can't even use it with another SIM card.

Summary: too many dropped calls and gets too hot
Comment: I'm on my second a727 because I thought the first one was faulty. Now, having the second one for 3 months, I've come to realize, this model is faulty. I constantly have dropped calls. And the phone gets really hot after just 10 minutes of talking. If you want a reliable phone-- which everyone does, do not get this phone.

Summary: Look to pre-paid
Comment: I was a ATT subscriber for years and the quality was great. However, in a belt tightening move I opted for Skype for a landline at $60/year UNLIMITED (I pay $50/month for broadband anyway) then I noticed that our two cell phones cost $81/month regardless of usage so I looked around and found TMobile prepaid and got cell phones with 2200 minutes for one year at $230. Since CA is now going to ticket drivers using phones it is a good excuse to just call when I get HOME!

Summary: Not too shabby
Comment: I really don't get excited about cell phones and I generally think that most products are "ok" or "not bad". I feel that this phone is "alright", it's got plenty of features and works well. All I can say is that it met my expectations after reading reviews about it.

It is very slim but hasn't broken in the past 7 months after the 10+ times that it has been dropped on concrete and other hard/rough surfaces.

There aren't a lot of cool cases or accessories specifically for this model, so that sucks. The output of sound isn't all that loud, some ring tones or songs are but most aren't.

All in all, I don't have much bad stuff to say about it - so that's good. It was worth the penny that I paid for it with my new AT&T plan. Please read other, more detailed reviews prior to purchasing. =]

Summary: No complaints here
Comment: Being a person who doesn't really LOVE talking on the phone but does it usually only when necessary, I must say that this phone is all that I need. Even though this phone isn't loaded with features, the ones that it does carry are useful and easy to use. Basically, this is a phone for someone who doesn't need his/her phone to do everything but clean the car.
Furthermore, I believe that a review of a phone should be about the phone. My hometown is in the middle of nowhere, with no service at all, so I'm quite familiar with dropped calls, regardless of what phone I own at the time. Blame the carrier for the lack of service/dropped calls--not the phone.
