INDICATIONS: Gentian violet (1% solution in water) is still an excellent treatment for Candida albicans. Anti-infective for treating minor cuts, scrapes and fungus infections Candida albicans is a fungus that may cause an infection of skin and/or mucous membranes (inside of mouth, for example) in both children and adults. In small children, this yeast is a frequent cause of white patches in the mouth (thrush), or diaper rash. When the nursing mother has a Candidal infection of the nipple, she may experience severe nipple pain, as well as deep breast pain. Please note: Gentian violet 1% in water also contains alcohol. Apparently some pharmacists are now dissolving it in glycerin, thus avoiding the use of alcohol.

Summary: Try something else first!
Comment: I bought this after a month of struggling with at-home remedies for thrush. I felt so guilty and nervous about it (it's not just carcinogenic, it's also extremely messy!), that I only used it once on one nipple. It stained my nipple, my expressed breast milk, and my baby a sickly purple, and it didn't even work! I might try it again someday on some part of me that doesn't come in to direct contact with a baby, but if you're looking for a cure for thrush try Grapefruit seed extract first.
