Editorial Reviews:

100% made in the U.S.A. Patent #7,213,346. The price is for one pair. The main body is 17-7 PH stainless steel, heat treated to a spring temper. All of the plastic parts are an engineering grade glass filled nylon. The SoloSiders are the only tools on the market that allow you to change the overlap dimension in real time. When you side a house, one of the most important aspects is to line up the siding evenly with the bottoms of the windows. Also the tops if possible. The pros actually vary the overlap to attain this. The only way you can do this with a siding installation tool (whether it works from the top or bottom) it has to be able to change the overlap dimension. You cannot use less than 1-1/4 overlap on fiber cement siding which is code minimum, but you can sure use more, and should. When using to install LP Smartside 3/8 thick, one inch is the minimum overlap, which this tool does. We provide overlap charts with these tools for every width of siding and in 1/16 increments. We ship via the USPS Priority mail, which usually takes about 2 days. If you wish to use another service give us a call.

Summary: Easy and Accurate
Comment: These are very simple to use just like in the instructions. They have held up well on my project. I'm a total novice and the learning curve is quite shallow. The results I'm getting are fantastic (I'm 3/4 done with my whole house). I would recommend, nay insist on these to anyone doing cement siding. It's an extra set of hands that never move the plank. I would caution any other novices that solo siding is a bit of a stretch. Don't get me wrong it is do-able; however for me, it was slow going. On the weekends with 1 or 2 helpers the project really took off. The $35 bucks was absolutely worth it.

Summary: A life saver!
Comment: I am NOT a builder. I sided a 3800 sq/ft modern box home *ALONE* thanks to these things. I had a friend (that took these from me when I finished!) show me how to start and turned me loose on my own! I don't know how to say how great these little things are! My home is VERY contemporary and straight lines are manditory. With these guys that was NO PROBLEM! I was able to adjust up and down to match butt joints and keep full plumb on every board! I would leave board up two stories when my nailer would jam and it stayed..ready to go!(watch out for wind gusts) Thesze are a must have for ANYBODY that hangs Hardiplank. Thanks for making them!!!

Summary: I love to work alone!
Comment: WOW! These things are fantastic! I purchased these to side my new home. I am building the house alone so anytime I can get a third hand, it is nice. These absolutely allow me to install the siding alone. I have just completed the first wall (28 feet wide, 30 feet to the top of the peak) and it has gone without a hitch. I would not install siding without these, even with a human helper.

Summary: A great helper and . . . great Folks
Comment: Larry Haun's article in Fine Homebuilding (Feb/March '08) put me on to this wonderful time & frustration saver.

A description flub on my purchase confirmation (from Amazon) was quickly and cheerfully cleared up with my phone call to Isabel (the "Mom" I trust, of the Mom & Pop operation which manufacturers this inventive helper).

And, speedier than expected for the US Postal Service, it promptly and correctly arrived just a couple of days following.

Summary: O.K. But there is better
Comment: I got these at the same time as I bought PacTool SA903 Gecko Gauge Hardie Board Siding Gauges NEW and by far the Pactool siding gauge is much faster and easier to use. The Solosider hook is on the top so you have to lift it up after the top board is on, which can be time consuming at times. Pactool hooks on the bottom and then you lift a lever that clamps it down very easy and quick. Plus, I have seen Hardie siding vary in size up to 1/8". With Pactool it does not matter. The only problem with Pactool is that it doesn't work with Hardie colonial which is 8" wide instead of 8 1/4". Why Hardie does this, I don't know. But Pactool gauges work with 6 1/4", 7 1/4", 8 1/4", 9 1/4" Hardie Plank.
