Summary: Works well for Banisters
Comment: This was the only gate I could find that would fit on my spiral staircase that was metal. I had to buy the kit, but it fit on the stairs without drilling holes or hardware. It is a little difficult to operate at first, and nealy impossible to do it with one hand, but I guess that makes it more difficult for your child to operate. Would recommend it if you have to put a gate on stairs where there are banisters and no where to mount hardware.

Summary: Great Gate for Odd Spaces!
Comment: Purchased this gate for the bottom of our steps. Couldn't mount a metal gate due to the design of the entryway. Only place it was possible to mount would have totally disrupted the flow of the downstairs. We use this gate so that it closes on an angle blocking a hot radiator and the stairs from the kiddo.
Mounting the gate side was easy. Mounting the latch side required an extra set of hands to hold the gate open as it wants to retract.
It is a bit difficult to get open. We typically just step over it (i'm 6'1" and my wife is 5'10"). It can also be a challenge to get the top and bottom hooks latched onto the gate. Practice makes perfect though. Give it some time and you'll find this gate aestetically pleasing (for a gate), convenient and very safe.

Summary: This gate will drive you batty!
Comment: This gate is the worst- it cannot be opened and shut with one hand (as it claims) and the locking mechanisms is so difficult that it works about 50% of the time and that is after i had practiced! it brought my mother-in-law to tears while babysitting. stay away!

Summary: A little difficult to operate, but works well.
Comment: We have this gate mounted on a 48 inch opening into a kiddie room and that width makes it harder to operate. There are many curse words muttered under the breath while trying to latch the thing sometimes.
The design is such that you have to keep one hand on the base while pushing a sliding button and pressing it down. So you have one hand 4 feet to one side while trying to stretch the mesh across the door and latching it on the other side one-handed.
Once latched, it works well.
As others have mentioned, it is NOISY also - making a loud ratcheting sounds when you open or close the gate.
It works sort of like a window shade laid sideways.
Overall, it is a good product with a few flaws and hassles.

Comment: Well designed product that blends well with the interior. Locks both in the open and retracted position (a must). However, it's virtually impossible to open or close the gate when you have a baby in your hands. Because of this, this gate is not suitable for high-traffic areas.
