Summary: Mice didn't go in - small opening seemed to make mice wary
Comment: Never caught a sincle mouse with this model from Victor -- I believe the small opening seemed suspicious to them and they stayed away. (Mechanical traps with small openings also don't work -- no mice in them either.)

I replaced it with one of Victor's electronic rat traps that has a much bigger opening (to a mouse, it seems like a cavern), and started catching mice immediately -- until it broke after 6-10 mice. The replacement also stopped working after about the same number of mice. (See my review on those.)

Summary: Patience is a virtue
Comment: Well, it's been 3 years in New York City with no rodent issues so I guess I was due for one. We called the exterminator who gave us the poison boxes and glue traps...but after weeks nothing. So out of desperation I bought the electronic trap at Rite Aid and set it along the path we saw the critter run....nothing. Then, all of a sudden it started chowing down on the poison under the sink....still nothing in the electric trap. After 4 nights of cleaning up poop and poison under the sink I decided to relocate the electronic trap to under the sink. Today I came home from work and had a blinking light and a tail coming out the hole...viola. Patience and trial and error with where to put this think seem to be key! He also didn't die gross...which is easier on my conscience.

Summary: The stupid thing shocked me!!!!
Comment: be very careful about touching anything metal on this trap... even the contacts in the battery compartment... while trying to put the batterys in i got a little jolt and a nice little burn and blister on my thumb. ironically that rendered my batterys completely useless... just as a precaution, make sure the little circle of the switch is down(off) and have the trap open in addition to making sure you are inserting the batterys correctly... especially when you insert batterys for the very first time. that way there is no way you can get zapped by this trap. anyway just set it out so wish me luck.....

Summary: Faulty, poorly designed...needs improvement!
Comment: I had some problems with this trap - the batteries included didn't work.

A second brand new set were zapped before it could work (the batteries do NOT last for fifty caught mice as the product indicates).

"Unique tunnel prevents mouse escape " - this just isn't true. A mouse was able to get into the trap, lick the peanut butter completely clean, and then excape without being zapped (with a new set of batteries).

Finally, with a third set of brand new batteries, we were able to catch a mouse last night. We put little bits of american cheese in the back without touching the shock plate(because the mice can lick the peanut butter through the venting holes on the outside without coming in)and finally caught a mouse.

Basically, the product is faulty and the design isn't great - for $20, it should work. However, on the third try we did catch a mouse, so I bumped up the one star to 2.

Summary: Mouse in the hole!
Comment: I am a true animal lover, but I can't handle the fact that there were mice living in my home and using my house as a toilet. I found out there were mice when I found one that accidentally died by drowning in my dogs water bowl.

I purchased this trap thinking that it would be the most humane way to eliminate the creatures and not risk them returning. The trap kills the mouse nearly immediately without the risk of just nearly hurting the creature or letting them suffer (Snap traps and glue traps).

I put this trap down with peanut butter and caught a mouse within 24 hours. I had terminix come out and do a free inspection and they told me the problem was very minimal and didn't believe there was really other mice in the house at this time.

Well one mouse down and I really hope I don't get another, but if I do have more in the house I am pretty sure they will all be eliminated soon.
