Customer Rating: Summary: Easy-to-use Comment: Pros: flexibly sized arm cuff, short use-to-reading time, doesn't overpump the cuff, large number read-out, easy memory function, comes with a case, can be hooked up to a DC 6V 600mA AC charger
Cons: no "off" switch, no charger included
I'm impressed at how easy it is to use this unit. The monitor comes in a soft, thin black leather case (6" x 4" x 4") and runs on 4 AA batteries. I was disappointed that there is no wall charger included, but there is a port for a DC 6V charger to be hooked up to the little unit. I have left mine completely on batteries and used it every day 1-2x for 50 days now, and the batteries are still fine. There is a low-battery signal that will blink on the unit if the batteries are low, and my low-battery still has not turned on. So, it's not an energy-sucking machine that adds tons of batteries costs, but you could purchase a DC 6V charger to save the batteries completely. There is also no "off" button, so at times the unit starts up on its own in the case if you bump it or set it down wrong. No big deal -- it just immediately shuts off, but it is annoying.
It takes about 30 seconds to measure my BP from the time I take the unit out of the case and hook it up, press start, and get a reading (very large number output with simple [one-touch] memory and recall functions). It produces a low buzzing noise as it pumps up the arm cuff, but this isn't even loud enough to startle my cats. Also, the arm cuff fits small to large arms. I had a 9.1" arm when I started using the unit, so I was concerned about the cuff being too large. But, the arm band fit fine (can probably fit a bit smaller than 9" arms). Nonetheless, it can also fit much larger arms (package states up to 16"+ and it realistically looks like the band could do just that).
Customer Rating: Summary: Prevention is first rate blood pressure monitore Comment: The Prevention DS-1902PV is my first new blood pressure monitor in years and is really good. Runs on aa batteries, is extremely easy to use, has two memories for wife and me, and is reasonably priced. Should have bought is sooner.
Customer Rating: Summary: Before you buy... Comment: Before you buy one of these monitors, which are well made and easy to use, check with your doctor. Mine GAVE me one of these monitors that she had received from the "Benicar" drug rep.
If you can't get one free, they are still worth the price Amazon is selling them for.
Customer Rating: Summary: I returned mine Comment: I was very disapointed by this product. It promises the right set of features, but it fails to deliver.
1. The package contains no user manual. I looked for a web site everywhere on the package and the quick guide; I could not find it. Actually as I write this, the package sits on its side, and I finally discover the web site adress located under the box. But who keeps the box after a purchase?
2. The very brief Quick Start guide (a two-sided 4"x6" piece) does not say how to set the clock. Isn't it the first thing a user would like to do?
3. There is no on/off switch, and the START button is very sensitive. So when you put the monitor in its pouch in a bag, it is more than likely that the unit will start to inflate on its own.
4. My set of 4 AA batteries lasted less than a week! There is no power supply nor any indication on how to order one!
5. The readings were much higher than the doctor's unit.
So I returned my unit.
Customer Rating: Summary: Life Saver Comment: I didn't feel any pain. I was a little short of breath and was exercising to get past it when I got this monitor. I learned that my resting heart rate was over 130 and my heartbeat irregular. As advised I sought the doctor who pushed me into a wheelchair and rolled to me directly to the hospital. The unit is a lifesaver.
