Editorial Reviews:

The IOGEAR DVI KVMP Switch GCS1762 switch charts a revolutionary new direction in KVM switch functionality by combining a 2-port USB KVM switch with USB peripheral sharing capability at the same time as it provides an interface for a digital monitor (DVI).As a KVM switch, it allows users to access two computers from a single USB keyboard, USB mouse, and monitor, and any peripherals such as printers and scanners. The GCS1762's independent (asynchronous) switching feature, allows the KVM focus to be on one computer while the USB peripheral focus is on another. This eliminates the need to purchase a separate USB hub as well as the need to purchase separate stand-alone peripheral sharers - such as printer servers, modem splitters, etc.The GCS1762 further improves on previous designs with DVI (Digital Video Interface) connectors, and the transfer of keyboard and mouse data to the computers via a fast, reliable USB connection. DVI supports both digital input (flat panel displays, data projectors, plasma displays, digital TVs and set-top boxes) and analog video input (traditional monitors and TVs).

Summary: Mac DVI Users Stay Away from This Product
Comment: Needed this to switch a 22" Apple Cinema Display between a G5 and G4 (server). After some pre-sales questions said the product would work with my system, I purchased the switch (from Amazon), a VGA/DVI adapter for the G4 and hooked it all up. Wouldn't work -- turns out I needed a video card with a DVI port. Fair enough -- another purchase. Still didn't work.

Would work with one computer, but trying to switch to the other shut down my first computer abruptly. Booting with the second computer, then switch to the first resulting in no display and the blinking power light that indicated the monitor was not receiving a signal.

What a waste! I would think a product that supposed to simply switch between two CPUs would do just that. Tech support's response: exchange for a new unit. I don't think so....

Returning the product for a refund, and will buy any other brand that Iogear. I suggest you do the same.

Summary: exceeds my expectations
Comment: It seems the world of DVI and USB KVM switches is a fairly small one. I've had plenty of problems with KVMs in the past, so I was pleasantly surprised when I found that this one worked as advertised and even included a feature I didn't even know I wanted.

I have this hooked up to a Thinkpad T61 running Ubuntu Hardy Heron with an Advanced Mini-Dock and a Core 2 Duo Macbook running Leoapard, all connected to an Apple 23" Cinema Display, a Happy Hacker Keyboard, and a Logitech TrackMan Wheel trackball -- not your normal assortment of hardware.

The switching is fast, much faster than with older KVMs I've used. Furthermore I've not experienced any problems with my setup, everything works as if there wasn't a KVM Switch sitting in the middle.

The bonus feature that I didn't know I wanted is the USB peripheral switching. I have a Logitech USB headset connected and it's great to be able to have it swap from one computer to the other. The best part is that I can leave it connected to one computer while using the Keyboard, Video and Mouse on the other.

Summary: Not Bad...uhhh...basically the cheape$t one around...
Comment: Good...very good...exactly what people are looking for...$199.99 @ Fry's electronics!!!! good god those Heathens - amazon order takes about 4 seconds to arrive (voila!)

THE only thing I HATE - You must select the screen (button 1 or 2) first before your computer boots up - otherwise, your Mac or PC will have default small desktop - thus destroying any Icon Workflow one may have developed! maybe I'm missing a secret setting on the PC that says "Never arrange Desktop"

Summary: PC/Mac KVM
Comment: Got this device to be able to help transition from Windows PC to Mac. Was helpful in getting rid of the second monitor but lots of trouble when switching with video resolution. Was useful but not worth the $$$ spent.

Summary: Works for me
Comment: I bought this as a replacement for another IOGear KVM with PS/2 mouse/keyboard and Analog Video (was forced to because of new PC purchase). I was worried about whether or not this would work how I needed it to, as KVM switches for me have always been hit-and-miss. I decided to get this one because the IOGear brand has seemed to be the best working brand for me in the past. My two requirements were 1.) cables had to be 6 ft. long, and 2.) hotkey function must work because the actual switch box will be inaccessible. This meets both requirements. I have it set up to switch between my work laptop (XP) and my home PC (Vista) and it works fine for both.

The reason I gave this 4 stars instead of 5 is because of the need for external power. There may be a good reason for this, I don't know. My previous IOGear KVM worked great without need for power. Anyway, as I was installing and testing this, we had a power blip and I lost video display from the laptop (external monitor set up as second screen). I had to actually turn everything off - power down both computers and KVM and then bring them back up again - to get video back. It's not a big deal, I just moved the power for the KVM to my battery backup and I shouldn't have any more problems with that. Other than that, this unit is solid and well-built. It's heavy, the casing is metal, not plastic.

Also, I didn't buy it from Amazon because I didn't want to go through the hassle of returning it if it didn't work for me. I paid full price ($200) for it and I am still happy with my purchase.
