Installation Instructions: For proper installation, follow these instructions: 1. Thoroughly clean each mounting surface with a quick-drying solvent that is residue free (Isopropyl Alcohol, Acetone or Lacquer thinner), removing any grease, dirt, oil, wax, moisture or rust. With the surface clean and smooth, a permanent bond is assured. 2. Using a razor knife or scissors, cut to the desired shape and size. Remove release liner. On large area applications, remove only a portion (8-10 inches) of release liner at a time, working your way down and across the panel in sections. 3. Heating the panel surface you are mounting to before applying the material is recommended to insure proper adhesion. Also, heating the Hoodliner will make the glue stickier. This will keep the Hoodliner in full contact with the panel maximizing material efficiency. 4. Apply the Hoodliner to the panel surface, starting at the top corner and working your way down and across, pressing the material into place as you go. With a roller tool, burnish the Hoodliner to the surface. Starting from the center, work it into all contours of the panel. Even if it's a smooth panel, rolling the material will insure lasting adhesion and full contact with the panel surface removing any trapped air. Specifications * Temperature Range: -40 to 225 degrees Fahrenheit * Weight LBS/SQ.FT: 0.20 * Gauge: 0.75 inches * R-Value: 2.7 * Radiant Heat Reflection: 97% * Flammability: Passes FMVSS-302

Summary: It will not effectively reduce engine noise.
Comment: I have only noticed a small difference in the engine noise. If for example, the engine noise of your car was rated at Volume 30 on your stereo, it would probably be at 25 with the Dynamat Hoodliner. Do not expect this to reduce much noise at all. I believe the best way to reduce engine noise is by adding the Hoodliner onto the firewall that covers the engine, but unfortunately this is a much harder task than just peeling a mat and sticking it under the hood.

Does it reflect heat? I can sure feel heat on the mat, so I could assume that it does help protect the paint on the hood cover.

The mat and foam is very thick compared to the regular dynamats, so needless to say, I was disappointed that it did not reduce the engine noise significantly.

Summary: Icing on the cake (just don't forget the cake)
Comment: I recently installed this product in my eight year old Honda CRV-SE as a step in soundproofing along with two 'bulk packs' (9 sheets each) of Dynamat Extreme. I cut the 'Extreme' into shaped pieces to fit the flat areas on the underside of my hood, then filled all of the hollow chambers of the criss-cross reinforcement with Great Stuff expanding foam. After measuring and cutting The Hoodliner to match the shape of my hood (and adding holes to accommodate my windshield washer nozzles, VIN sticker, and hood support brace) I used it to cover the Dynamat Extreme and dripping foam. My hood now sounds like a solid wood desk when you knock on it with your hands and engine noise is substantially reduced. I like The Hoodliner as a "finishing touch" to cover the real soundproofing materials I installed beneath, but I cannot imagine it is a very effective sound barrier on its own, since it cannot make adequate contact with the contoured surface area of the metal, and therefore cannot dampen vibrations, only muffle them slightly.

This product in conjunction with Dynamat is nice, but I would not expect it to be much more than cosmetic by itself.

On a separate note; the quality of materials is excellent. The heat-reflective liner seems to be very well mated to the foam, and the adhesive seems extremely strong. I have no worries that this will unglue from my hood and get twisted up in my engine. ~ Dane
