Customer Rating: Summary: Great product, works as advertised Comment: The Speco IR-200 is a very sturdy, solid IR illuminator/extender, and works great with Sony Nightshot Camcorders.
The extender plugs into a standard AC outlet, and runs for up to 25,000 hours, when you can return the item for a new LED flashboard. For those of us not doing security survelliance, that "should" mean years before that's needed.
The LED's light up areas 5X the size of the Sony Camcorders, literally entire rooms, and provide a nice flooding effect that's very bright and clear.
For paranormal investigators and hobbyists, this is a great item for leaving next to a running IR camera, when recording for long periods of time, or isolated. It blows away the ability of any IR extender that is attached to your camera. I've experimented with various IR extender products, and this is by far the best I've found. I was very pleased with how much light it provides, and the distance (25-30 clearly visible feet is realistic) is impressive.
Downsides: Power cord is too short, you will definitely need an extension cord in many cases. No battery options, plug-in only (actually a plus for me considering what it's used for).
Speco shipped it the same day I ordered, great service through Amazon as always.
