Here's a drawing pad that young doodlers can take everywhere. With an erasable board, they can sketch to their heart's delight, drawing pictures of whatever they see and then starting all over again. A magnetized pencil helps kids and mom keep track of the drawing tool. Four stamp magnets—a bunny, pup, kitty and chick—can become part of the picture on the drawing board or used with paper for cute stamped pictures and creative coloring. Has a convenient carrying handle. A Play + Learn toy from Parents Magazine.

Customer Rating: Summary: Good, but could stand improvement Comment: I bought this toy a month or two ago for my 20-month-old son. The issue with the ladybug that many reviewers have mentioned no longer seems to be a problem; at least on our board it slides back and forth easily and my son has no problem with it. It erases in both directions, and there's no loud grinding noise or anything.
My pet peeve is with the magnetic stamps. They are so tightly wedged into the board that my son can't remove them on his own, and they are hard for even me to get out unless I pull on them exactly the right way. Further proving the point, we took this toy to my parents' house over Thanksgiving, and my son tried to play with it with them one evening while my husband and I were out. Not knowing that the animal shapes at the top were removable, my parents tugged on them a bit and finally gave up, deciding that they weren't meant to be removed. It seems to me that in a toy designed for 2-year-olds, they could have come up with a method of magnet storage that the kids could manipulate on their own -- for example, having the top be magnetic so that the magnets would 'stick' in their appropriate spots, without being gripped so hard that they can't be removed.
That said, my son does enjoy this toy. He likes to scribble with the pen and play with the shapes the magnets make.
Customer Rating: Summary: I want one for me, too Comment: My mother in law purchased this for my son's 2nd birthday this year. We haven't had any problems with the lady bug eraser movement. Of course, my son is a bit of a bruiser. We have really enjoyed drawing pictures together (rather than on my walls!) The impression the animal magnets leave on the board are a bit disappointing, but as a drawing pad, we really like it.
Customer Rating: Summary: This really is pretty bad. Comment: We have had two of these toys, both gifts, both nearly impossible to erase. It takes quite a lot of strength to pull that ladybug down. Then, after a few months either the ladybug starts to come off of the lever or the lever no longer goes all the way to the bottom, making it impossible to erase part of the screen. And the whole ladybug eraser mechanism is really loud and annoying. The animals aren't magnetized to the top, they kind of snap in and out. So, as others have said, they go from being hard to get out to falling out too easily. We also have the Fisher Price Doodle Pro. The shapes on that slide into the side, keeping them from getting lost. It's really easy to erase, and the screen looks better--whiter and the black shows up better.
Customer Rating: Summary: This Toy Sent My Daughter to the Emergency Room Tonight! Comment: I have only owned the Parents brand Young at Art magnetic sketch board since Christmas 2007, when my now 22 month old daughter received it as a gift. The magnetic animals that come with the board are quite small and pose a choking hazard to young children, so I took them away from her. I assumed this would eliminate any safety risk, but I was wrong. Tonight my child placed the tip of the magnetic pen in her mouth, somehow detaching the tiny magnet from the rest of the pen. As I was unsure of whether or not she swallowed the magnet I rushed her to the nearest emergency room. I brought the board along just so the doctor on call could get an idea of the size of the magnet she may have swallowed. When I got out of the car to walk into the ER, I also noticed that an unknown, black greasy substance was leaking from the pen. I feared it was toxic, so I was very careful not to let it contact my or my child's skin.
The doctor had to have a nose-to-rectum X-ray done on my child, and fortunately she did not swallow the magnet, but it certainly could have happened. Furthermore, she must have ingested some of the unknown, potentially toxic, still unidentified substance oozing from the pen, so I do not know any side effects it will have on her. I did not want to touch this dangerous product any longer, so I had the doctor discard it in the biohazard bin.
This product is very improperly made and certainly a serious safety hazard for children. All the other problems mentioned by other reviewers - the magnets that won't stay in place after repeated use, the difficult to use ladybug slider, and the grinding noise - are all true as well. The 16 dollars for which the Parents company sells this product may look like a bargain, but the ER visit cost my family well over 100 dollars and a great deal of anxiety.
Customer Rating: Summary: Great toy Comment: I disagree with all of the negative reviews. I am looking to buy a second one of these for my 10 month old daughter, who loves her older brothers. She has no problems taking the magnets out of their slots or erasing the doodles or making doodles. We have had this toy for 3 months and it is a hit. Both my 20 and 10 month old likes it and can use it as intended.
