Summary: Pumps like a Sharp!
Comment: I had a Sharp 722 that i loved, unfortunately i beat the [snot] out of it snowboarding for 4 years. When it finally gave up the ghost i bought a Sony because thats all that retailers carry anymore..... it sounded like my 722 with the bass turned off and the volume at 75%, in short it was not up to the task of rockin me down the slopes like my old Sharp. So i bought this SR60 unit, it cranks just as hard as my old 722 it is a lot lighter and has all the same features except it only has 10 sec shock memory. So far this hasn't proved to be a problem, i shook it like crazy for a minute when i first got it and it only skipped once. Dont hesitate on this unless your into classical music only and you need to buy locally.

Summary: Not so good
Comment: I bought this minidisc player about two years ago, and since then, it's broken twice. The first time, I sent it in and the people at sharp fixed it. The second time it broke, the tried to fix it, but when they sent it back to me, it still didnt work. Now, the lid to the battery holder has come off, and so it is completely worthless. This same thing happend to a friend who had the exact same model

Summary: Excellent Investment for your Music
Comment: I've had this Minidisc recorder for at least three years now, and I've never had ANY problems with it whatsoever. If you want to record MP3's from your computer, you need to also buy a Mini-to-Mini cord to go along with it...I'd also reccomend buying some software to make it easier to record all your songs in order, and to keep them organized. ... The battery life of this recorder could be a little bit better, but considering that it comes with a rechargeable battery, I can't complain. It's extremely durable (I take it up skiing with me all the time.), and the remote comes in handy for things like this. I'd reccomend getting a different pair of headphones, because the ones that comes with it are pretty flimsy. Other than that, it's an EXCELLENT investment, and I'd reccomend it to anybody!

Summary: Sync mode can be turned off. Unit is fine for live recording
Comment: An earlier review (July 9, 2002 by "an electronics fan") states that "you can't turn off sync mode." This is not true. You can record from any source, including a microphone, with or without sync mode.

When I first read the July 9th user review, I almost refrained from buying the SR60 because I intended to use it for live recording. Fortunately, I did a little more research (you can even download the user manual from ...) and was glad to learn that the unit would be suitable for my purposes.

I recently purchased an SR60 and have not been disappointed. It does an excellent job of recording live music.

Summary: Good sound, but not recording
Comment: I bought my Sharp minidisc player from amazon in 2000, and i thought that it was the best damn thing around. My thoughts stayed the same for a while, until i started recording myself and concerts that were leagel to record, like Bela Fleck and the Flecktones. I found that you can't turn off the sync mode. What the sync mode will do is that it will stop recording when there is scilence, or if it is not loud enough. So, i went to a jazz camp all about the learning, and the students were supposed to record the concerts at night. So i did and put my Senhizer Headphones in the mic input (the HD570 are great, in sound quality and they record as a mic would), and when the concert was not loud enough, than it would not recieve it because of the sync mode.
So, if you are looking for some good minidisc player that you will not be recording with, than these are the ones. The sound quality kicks ___. This is a good affordable pair, but if you are looking for some good live recording ones, than look at sony. But if you are looking for some that will record live, than these are definetly not the ones. However, they have great digital recording from the computer through the optical imput.
