There's more to going to the movies than seeing the movie itself - it's the popcorn! Now, with the Whirley Pop Popcorn Maker, you can make fluffy, delicious popcorn just like you get at the theater. The stay-cool hardwood handle turns the stainless steel paddle inside, preventing scorching and burning, and making certain every kernel pops up like it should. The steam vents on top allow moisture to escape so the popcorn is always light and tender. Much quicker than microwaving, the popper makes up to 6 quarts and comes with a 25 year warranty. Also included with the popper is 1 popcorn packets (each one making up to 6 quarts) and "secret ingredient" flavoring packets that give the popcorn that movie-popcorn taste. The popper also comes with a recipe book for more popcorn flavor ideas.Pan is made of aluminum and the lid is made of stainless steel and aluminum.

Customer Rating: Summary: Yes, it works great, just popped my first batch!! ;>) Comment: Well, I was skeptical at first but what the heck, purchased it here on Amazon for less than $20. It just arrived so after cleaning it out (be sure and clean out with soap and water first ;>) ) I seasoned the pot with 1 Tbsp. peanut oil or your favorite kind. Turn on the burner, mine is electric, and heat up the pan and oil. Before things get too hot, take several paper towels and wipe out the oil, wiping it along the entire inside of the pot being careful not to get the oil on your hand, ouch, it's super hot ;>)
Wipe out the excess and you're ready to pop your first batch of corn. I used regular yellow pop corn from Walmart and peanut oil. Put 1 Tbsp. of your favorite oil along with 1/2 cup pop corn. I also put in about 1/2 tsp. of popcorn salt. When all of this is in the pan, put the lid on tight and turn the burner on Med Hot. My burner goes from 1-9 and I put it on 8 to start. I didn't start to turn the crank until the corn started to pop. Once it starts, turn the crank slowly until it starts to get hard to turn. STOP TURNING THE CRANK AT THAT POINT! By that time, the corn is just about all popped so I took the pan off the burner and shook it until all the corn was popped. I then just dumped the corn in to two bowls, one for me, one for my wife. WOW, does this thing pop corn!! My wife and I have just finished all 6 quarts of the corn, it is popped super fluffy and the taste is awesome, all with 1 Tbsp or peanut oil, no need to put too much oil in with this popper.
I believe the problem with the gears with others may have been trying to turn the crank when the pan is about half full of popped corn. Yes, it does get stiff to turn but at that point, if you do turn it too hard, something is going to give, most likely the plastic gears so just pick the pan up with the handle, shake it several times while the corn finishes popping and dump into bowls.
My wife was very impressed and I am off to make another batch, awesome popper folks, be patient with it and enjoy the corn, best corn we have ever made at this house and sure is better than my whole case of microwave popcorn I just got last week ;>) It will probably go bad now with this popper being used.
Enjoy the corn, this baby works folks!

Customer Rating: Summary: Whirley Pop popcorn popper Comment: Great flavor popcorn, and the corn pops in the same amount of time as microwave popcorn, but this has a better flavor and more of it.
Customer Rating: Summary: Best Popcorn Ever Comment: My boyfriend is popcorn crazy. He literally picks movie theaters because of the quality of the popcorn. The first time I made him popcorn with the Whirley-Pop Popper, he couldn't believe it. For a year we took it back and forth between our homes. I gave him one of his own for Christmas this year and he was estatic. You won't be disappointed.
Customer Rating: Summary: Whirley-Pop Stovetop Popcorn Popper Comment: Product works fine although it looks fragile, pay attention to instructions, use med-high heat for popping and turn crank slowly, great with white pop corn as well as yellow. Easy clean up.
Would not recommend theater type popcorn initially supplieds
Customer Rating: Summary: Keeps on breaking Comment: I love the Whirley -Pop, but I have the worst luck with the gear mechanism breaking. My third Whiley-Pop broke after just three days of use. I have tried repairing it myself with out much luck. The warranty does not work well because its just a little more money to buy a new one. I have given up on Whirley-Pops and now use a Cusinart Popper which works very well.
