Customer Rating: Summary: bowrench Comment: best $60 i ever spent !
i was using a one inch hardwood on a deck and with the softness of modern day treated 2 x 6,coupled with the lack of straightness of the mangaress. i was having a hard time with the traditional method, of chisel driven into the framing and levering over the board, as this would usually end up with the soft 2 x 6, breaking away.
then i brought the bowrench and hey presto, straightened out boards.
a must for any serious deck builder, or even DIY guys, with a deck project.
Customer Rating: Summary: this is an incredible time, energy and material saver! Comment: This little gadget is simple to use, and incredibly effective. While building our deck, we chose to use longer boards which by nature, are very likely to be warped or twisted. We were able to salvage close to 100 board feet of lumber that we would have been otherwise unable to use, or would have had to cut down into smaller pieces to avoid the gaps. (What good is using the longer boards to start with!)
It makes it very easy to work independently and still have two hands free to attach the board. We would never try to build another large framing or decking project without it!
Customer Rating: Summary: Time Saver that keeps ther boards straight Comment: Besides redecking my existing deck I added 384 sq ft. This tool allowed me to straighten warped boards and keep them aligned. I was even able to do it alone. This tool is a must have for anyone laying a deck!!
Customer Rating: Summary: Must have tool for decking Comment: We just finished installing a treated wood deck with about 4,000 linear feet of decking. This tool was worth the price if only for this deck. Looking forward to using it with T&G adapter in the future.
Customer Rating: Summary: A must have for installing wooden 2"x6" decking Comment: I just purchased this BW-2 Bowrench decking wrench to help me resurface a roughly 420 square ft. deck from pressure treated 2" x 6" lumber. A friend of mine who has many years experience building his own decks (and helping out other friends) snickered when he came over to lend me a hand. Said things like "I see you got another gadget", and "Hey, bright orange swively thing...".
By the end of the 2nd row of planking, he was singing a different tune. "Hey, this is a really nice tool". By the 7th row, "You couldn't make these nice straight rows out of this bent lumber without this tool", and "I wish that I had this when I did my decks".
By the 10th row, "You said you paid $35, but if you needed one now, you would pay $100 and be happy to pay it" and "If this breaks, you need to have one over-nighted tomorrow"
This Bowrench is our entire conversation now, other than discussing about contract negotiations with the state of NJ (He's a Corrections officer), or throwing a compliment or two towards my 10" Bosch compund slider (which I also bought at Amazon 5 years ago) or the Philips Square-drive decking screws that we are using. I think he wants to marry this decking wrench...
Seriously, I don't see how you can put together a straight deck out of non-linear wooden constituents without this tool, especially with the thick 2" x 6" boards that I'm using both for strength and the substantially lower cost relative to 5/4" decking.
