Editorial Reviews:

A 3-disc Deluxe Edition of Air's seminal 1998 debut album "Moon Safari", packaged in a case bound book DVD size. Second audio disc features rarities, remixes (Beck, Moog Cookbook) and key songs from radio sessions recorded during 1998. DVD component is the hour-long Mike Mills documentary "Eating, Sleeping Waiting and Playing" filmed in New York, London and Paris during Air's first tour.

Summary: One of the best albums I have ever heard.
Comment: "Sexy Boy," while a big hit, actually hurts rather than helps this phenomenal album. That said, there is not a bad song on this album. It is fantastic and timeless.

Summary: Cinematic music
Comment: I'm not a fan of France, French food or Frenchmen in general, but I am a huge fan of this French duo. They're incredible musicians - very, very talented - in a league all of their own. With Air it's the music, which says it all, not the lyrics, but the music is so vivid, so cinematic, that it creates all kinds of images and stories in your mind. Most critics and fans seem to agree that Moon Safari is their masterpiece, and they may be right, but personally I just can't make up my mind; I love Premier Symptomes, Talkie Walkie, and Pocket Symphony just as much. Life wouldn't be the same without Air.

Summary: It's porn film music! It's a Bacharach movie soundtrack! It's AIR and it's wonderful!
Comment: Take one pint of porn movie music, a half cup of Burt Bacharach, four tablespoons of Brian Wilson, a quarter stick of seventies easy listening music. Combine in a pot and heat until the easy listening music has melted, stirring occasionally. Add some electronica, a vocoder, some sifted driving background music, and sprinkle with some Henry Mancini. Pour into a cake pan and chill in the fridge at 40-80 beats per minute for one hour, until it sets. Make some frosting with a half cup of John Barry soundtracks and some French flavored melancholy. Top with some Muzak, if desired.
AIR is a wonderful mix of all of these. This is one of the best CHILL albums ever. This French duo has the intelligence and artistry to take all of these and make them sound new and fresh. It's retro and contemporary. It's computer enhanced and nostalgic old school. Great album without any filler!

Summary: Pleasant but Canned--Mix is Off
Comment: Waited years before I finally bought this and now I remember why. "All I Need" and "Femme d'Argent" are delightful summer-day, mellow, fluffy songs. Except for those, though, this is elevator/shopping mall/quaalude music, especially the last 4 VERY SLOW songs, omg, zzzzzzz....

Moreover, the mix is strangely harsh and metallic for this type of music; the treble seems excessive, making the keyboards and effects almost painfully sharp. It's tolerable on an Ipod with the right EQ setting, but on a home stereo it's shrill even with bass turned up and treble turned down. This aggravates what would be a minor annoyance: the many unnecessary, sustained high synth tones and even hisses in the background. These would be subliminal if the mix were right. But they are brought forward, and become noticeable flaws.

My advice: download "Femme d'Argent" and "All I Need" as MP3s. Save your CD money for a disc with more good tracks on it.
