Editorial Reviews:

A double back-spin on a motorcycle...ane elephant with a wooden leg...an apple the size of your head...it's just another year at the Guinness World Records!

It’s another year of amazing record breakers from Guinness World Records™ 2008. Now the world’s most popular book offers more diversity than ever, from epic endeavors in science and technology, entertainment, and sports to the exceptional wonders of the natural and man-made world. Discover the incredible facts of life on Earth—and beyond—as never before. Did you know…

At 114 years 24 days, Yoneko Minagawa of Japan is the world’s oldest living person, following the death of the USA’s Emma Faust Tillman in 2007.

The largest commercially available burger is 78lb. 8 oz., available at Bob’s BBQ and Grill at Pattaya Beach in Chonbur, Thailand. It costs $23.95 and anyone who can finish it within three hours receives a refund, their name on a plaque, and a gift certificate for a future visit. To date, the fastest finishing is eight hours.

The longest swim under ice with breath held goes to Win Hof of the Netherlands. Wearing only bathing trunks and goggles, Hof swam 188 ft. 7in. under ice in just 1 minute 1 second. To do so, he endured a water temperature of 21.2 degrees F (-6C).

And that’s just a taste of what’s inside this extraordinary book, filled with stunning photos, exclusive interviews—and information about how to become a record breaker yourself….

Summary: Paperback edition 2008
Comment: This book is not as good as the hardcover, but it does cover all the records, as far as I can see. It is great for my 8-year-old son. I would recommend the Hardcover edition for easier reading.

Summary: Unique
Comment: Guinness World Records is unique in that it was the first to certify all kinds of weird records. For example, Fastest Banana Eater. All the records are certified. Some records are continually broken. This book is the inspiration for the eating contests like the Nathan's Hot Dog Eating which is held every year on July 4th. Then there are records like the oldest verified human being. Sorry not Methusula. This book is published in many forms. I've owned many. Like the Almanac it's updated every year. This version is the 2008 Paperback Version. Small and compact but somewhat dificult to read but as far as I can tell all the records are included. If you want the hard copy or coffee table editions you'll have easier reading but will have to probably pay at least double the price.

Summary: The one-star review is dumb
Comment: The two books aren't the same - and if the reviewer was expecting the same, he's nuts. This is the thick paperback that lists thousands of records. The glossy hardcover is the coffee-table version that lists far fewer records. One isn't a duplicate of the other - they are entirely separate books. If you're into this kind of book, then this is the Guinness paperback you expect.

Summary: Horrible balck and white poor reproduction.....
Comment: ....of an absolutely gorgeous book in hardback. Such a cheap insult to the original I threw it in the bin.
